How to make a heavyweight hoodie last a decade
Wash cold, dry slow, and stop hanging it. A short care guide for heavyweight loopback fleece and screen-printed graphics.
Heavyweight fleece is durable, but the two things that kill a hoodie fastest are heat and hanging. Get those right and a heavyweight hoodie outlives most of your wardrobe.
Washing
Turn it inside out. Always. It protects the print more than anything else on this list.
- Cold wash, 30°C or below
- Gentle cycle, mild detergent, no bleach
- No fabric softener — it coats the loops and flattens the texture
- Wash with similar colours and avoid zips that can snag the fleece
Drying
Skip the tumble dryer. Heat shrinks cotton and cracks screen prints. Dry flat on a rack, not on a hanger — a wet heavyweight hoodie is heavy enough to stretch its own shoulders out of shape.
Storage and repair
Fold it, don't hang it. If a cuff or hem loses recovery, a warm wash and flat dry usually brings most of it back. Small seam splits are worth a five-minute repair — the fabric will still be good long after the stitch fails.
Ironing the print
Don't iron directly on the graphic. If you need to press it, go inside out on low heat, or hit it with steam from a distance.
