Mental health t-shirts in the UK: what to look for
Slogan tee or something that lasts? How to judge a mental health t-shirt on fabric, message and where the money goes — plus where HHSS sits.
A tee is the easiest way to carry a mental health message — and the easiest thing to get wrong. Most of the market is a cheap blank with a slogan on it and no money going anywhere.
Fabric first
Look for a mid-to-heavy cotton that keeps its shape at the neck after a dozen washes. A tee that curls at the collar stops getting worn, and a message that stays in a drawer says nothing.
Message over volume
One honest line beats a wall of hashtags. The test: would you wear it to the pub and to work? If it only works at an awareness event, it is a costume rather than clothing.
Follow the money
Ask what the donation is per item. HHSS donates £3 from every tee, £5 from every heavyweight hoodie, £2 from every cap and £1 from every £5 car sticker — inside the price, not added at checkout.
